It is just a workstation and no data is stored on the machine, the extra disks would just be for speed. The specs that I just got back from the consultant are a similar system to the first except it is a dual processor xeon with more memory and instead of raid 1 it is setup as a raid 5 array with 3 disks. We are now adding our 2nd radiologist and the machine is expected to need even better specs than the first due to some 3d mammography that we will be adding in the future. (against my protests) The machine is working fine but the hard drives are the slowest link in the system. The radiology conslutant that we used spec'd the PC for dual 1tb SATA drives in RAID 1 config. Part of the recommended specs for a reading workstation from our vendor was SSDs or multiple SAS drives in a RAID configuration. I work for a medical practice that recently hired its first Radiologist (a couple of months ago).
